We have a gentle giant in our neighborhood he protects us all and he especially protects our animals. He lies in the grass all summer watching and waiting to see if any cars are coming, then he warns the dogs and then they run home. He lies still never saying a word and then the dogs come over and he stays still as a mouse and they jump on him and then there cautious and go up to him and give him doggie kisses. He laughs and talks to them (there his buddies) he was abandoned by the side of the road and people took him in, the house here is a caretaker house and he calls his white caregiver Dad. "Watch me dad" he will say and throw the ball at them and laugh and laugh. He loves the sun and they have to go out and get him and tell him its time to eat, and he runs in and eats and then runs back outside again. They keep a watchful eye on him constantly bringing him back in the house to get him out of the sun. He is severely retarded, his legs are twisted, so he doesn't walk or run well. He barely can talk well, but he manages to yell at the neighbors children and he'll say something to them then he laughs and laughs. He is so joyful, and happy and loves everybody. He is probably around 30 years old, and we all love him dearly, he protects us and we protect him. His Dad brought him around the neighborhood one year and let him trick or treat us. He came up with Dad on the porch with a very distrustful look at me. Not saying a word, and I'm like "oh so glad to meet with you, oh my you look like a clown in the circus he just shyly smiled at me. Then he turned real fast and ran to the next door neighbors! and his dad could barely keep up with him! He was getting candy for his family! and boy was he excited!

Pearl, you've made me get all misty eyed, are you serious, someone left him on the side of the road as if he were an unwanted dog? I'm speechless, heartbroken, but yet so glad that there was someone with a big enough heart to take him in. A gentle giant indeed.

This is when you know that there are angels watching over us. All life is valuable and all life can create miracles for others to admire.
What a lovely writing Pearl. It makes me realize how much goes on around us that we don't notice and makes us realize that every person has a story they just need someone to tell it. Thanks for telling us about the gentle giant. Hugs, Diane
Pearl you are an amazing person; your writing tells us of your inner beauty and awareness and love for all things real. Thank you for this wonderful tale of love!

This Post made me STOP in my tracks.
"He ain't heavy...he's my brother."
Your words reminded me it IS our responsibility to care for the hurting, suffering people in our world...thankfully someone else out there believes this, too!
Beautiful!

The tears just started rolling down my face, but not in a sad way. This was a beautiful post! It is nice to here about kindness in the world. The world is not so cold at this moment. I had the DH read your post from the 3rd and you made us laugh. :)

I am so glad you shared this with us!
What a beautiful post...so happy to hear he's found a new home.
Oh my goodness - this sounded almost unreal - to think that ANYONE could just dispose of a person (or puppies/kitties) this way is shameful beyond words! Wow - did the authorities do anything to help int his situation? Bless the person who took him in- and bless YOU for bringing us this story :-)
